Master Course Small Project Game & Media Technology

HU Media Small Project GMT

Format

The project takes place at HU (Hogeschool Utrecht / University of Applied Sciences Utrecht). The small project is a team project. One or two GMT students collaborate with a number of HU students. The task is to design and develop a media application for an external stakeholder. At HU, this project is known as a "Studio Design" project, part of their Communication and Media program. The GMT student works at the venue of the HU at Heidelberglaan 15, Utrecht.

Courese description at HU: The common thread of Studio Design is working on the case brought in by the client. Here you will apply your knowledge and skills gained in other courses. In a team of three or four students you will work for the client. As a team, you determine which activities each team member will undertake within the project and how the project will develop during the weeks. Make sure that you keep a close eye on what you will be assessed on at the end so that you have taken on those tasks. In addition to working for a client, you work on an individual, professional learning question. You formulate this question during the first weeks of the Studio Design and it has to do with a skill that you personally want to develop better. You decide which learning question you want to work on and how you are going to do that. To formulate a learning question it is necessary to look at the feedback you have received in previous courses. There is also a 'dictionary of professional skills' available for your inspiration.

Learning outcomes at HU: You reflect meaningfully on your performance and formulate points of improvement for a subsequent project. The form and content of your professional and educational products have been carefully taken care of, also your designer/participant attitude is representative of an aspiring CMD professional.
You interpret the context of the assignment and recent developments in the relevant domain and argue validly how and why the concept is relevant within the context of the assignment. You develop a medium-independent and people-oriented concept for a campaign or service based on insights from research. The solution/concept is distinctive and arrived at through multiple iterations in a creative design process. You validate the chosen solution, the media to be used and adequately interpret the consequences for users, organization and/or society.
You communicate insightfully the results from the research and testing. You develop demos and working prototypes on the basis of three iterations. You develop demos based on compelling research into content, form and function and test them using various given models for user testing and co-design.
You insightfully communicate the results from the research and testing. The solution/concept is distinctive and created through multiple iterations in a creative design process. You clarify the iterative design process and the design from your role. You validate the chosen solution, the media to be used and adequately interpret the consequences for users, organization and/or society.
